about

Ol Brentt's music sounds like a collection of sound samples or scraps of recordings that show how the big picture could sound like, similar to field recordings as exemplary evidence of music from a certain cultural context or a certain area.

It gives the disturbing impression that there could be an organic, ancient electronic music tradition. As if today's electronic music is just the direct continuation of ancient traditions. As if one had found a connecting piece that had previously been believed to have disappeared, but which of course cannot exist. Hereby it is not clear where these connections could lead to and whether it is not a big game of confusion that one has been caught in.

Obviously the recordings were made with very simple and freely accessible samples and submissive sounding beats. It seems important that the spontaneity and the capture of the original creation process don’t get lost. Manual post-processing is apparently seen as a process of destroying the originality, because the "songs" have remained in a pleasant rough version.

Ol Brentt's music is definitely weird, disturbing, and primitive in an organically sounding way. It is an attempt, an improvisation and a statement and it sounds ancient and fresh at the same time, strange and yet familiar and it appeals to deep emotional worlds.
